How to check how far previous owner went with exhuast....
Need to check how far my previous owner went with the exhaust. All he told me was he had Flowmasters (not sure even how to verify this, any markings on the pipes?) Exhaust consists of headers, X or H pipe, and the exhuast pipes itself (please correct me if I am wrong, I am newb.) if i recall.
Anyway to check if these parts are aftermarket? Thanks guys

look under your car and see how many cats on on your midpipe, if u have 4 your stock,2 modded, 0....modded. if u have an x pipe..modded, and if your headers are really long...guess what, modded! but you should know how far your exhaust has been taken just by sound, theres only so much flows can do for a stang

97s have 6 catalytic converters, not 4. They have an element inside them that gets hot and stays hot to burn fuel that isn't burned in the engine for lower emissions.

+1.
Also, the stock manifolds are "log style" aka they don't have individual pipes coming from each manifold port, they just all run together down the length of the engine (they come out and immediatly just go in the same pipe.
LTs or shorties will have an indivial pipe off each cylinder and then twist around into a single collector right where it hooks up to your midpipe.
