Front Wheel Bearing Grease? 02 GT

OK Experts, I finally have come to the conclusion that my front wheel bearing needs to be replaced on my 02 GT. Virbrations are different in front end based upon direction of steering wheel.
It looks like a large socket about 38 mm would take the nut off and then I get to the bearing.
Questions are:
Is the hub and bearing one assembly?
Looking past the nut and washer, I can see the bearing and it is dry, no grease at all. Is that common?
Can I repack this bearing? and would I have to pack a new bearing?
Since there is no cotter pin and castle nut this must be a pressed fit and what would be the new torque fro the retaining nut?
Lastly, what is that funky black cover over the nut, with the holes at every edge of the nut?
Thanks in advance for all help provided!

The hub bearing is one complete asembly, get an asm. and a new nut when you replace it. There is no grease, nor is there a way to grease it. It is a sealed unit that cannot be repacked, it must be replaced, Takes about an hour in your garage if that as long as you have the right tools. They are pretty pricey tho...

I just did mine recently. I think that they were like $50.00 for the hub/bearing assembly, per side. I got them at Advanced Discount Auto Parts. I had to use a strong airimpact wrench to get the nut off of it.

Dang - how many miles can we expect to get out of them before replacing?

Well my car has 113,000 mi and I just replaced the fronts. I drive hard and roadcourse race it every summer. Cheap fix though, Brad's Custom autoswapped mine in 1.5 hours. Be glad you don't have a friggin Chevy. They are $220+ for each corner, regardless of model.
