I cant believe he got jacked by the dealer... well I guess I can....

I actually didn't have any problems with my 460 for about a year, then they just started. It was going great until I got a CD ERROR and couldn't eject CD's about a couple months ago then I did the battery reset thing and it fixed it. But now its not fixing it at all. hmmm....

so Should I take it in somewhere since I dont wanna get any aftermarket stuff yet?

I've had no trouble with mine but my friend bought an '05 GT brand newwith the mach1000 6-disk changer and had tons of trouble including he couldn't get his CD's out. When the dealer took the stereo out, he never got his CD's back either!
05s don't have the mach systems

I have the "CD ERROR" issue with my Mach 460 as well. Only does this with burned CDs however. I just hit the side of the console where the head unit is and it usually fixes it. I think I'll try doing the lense cleaner and see if that makes a differance.

i don't know why so many people have so many problems with the 460. i've never had a problem with it. i just use a laser lense cleaner on it once in awhile. the only discs that skip for me are ones that are REALLY scratched, and even those sometimes play just fine. i think the 460 is a great unit!
+1 Ford makes an excellent stereo system....people have to realize that nothing is perfect and some will go bad/be defective...doesnt make all ford stereos junk...

it would probably be cheaper to get one off ebay...since to repair one it usually has to be sent to a company and that takes time/more $$ usually...check ebay/junk yards before going to the dealer

the only problem ive ever had with ford stereos, the OEM in my 1990 Ford probe, the lights went out/dimmed out...same as my dads 2000 exploder...other than that, its a great setup

im still using my OEM radios in my 98 ranger and my mustang and they work great! 107k miles on the ranger and CD player still works great....90k miles on the probe and the cassette player lights finally burned out

I had a local (very reputable) stereo shop do my install, Myer-Emco... they installed the Pioneer 880PRS in my 04 GT Vert, and afterwards, it was very apparent that the front tweeters were dead, and the rest of the system sounded like garbage. I had all 4 sets of Mach 460 components replaced with Boston Acoustics SX60s, and hopefully in August I'll be able to get an amp installed to power the interior speakers, but for now it sounds fantabulous.

They routed the wiring around the stock amps when they put the head unit in, and then were just able to install the BA speakers, no prob.

Here's the hardware list:

Boston Acoustics SX-60 component speakers (2 pairs)
Pioneer Premier 880-PRS head unit
Alpine 800w mono amp (for subs)
JL Audio Power Wedge box with 2 10w3v2 subwoofers in the trunk.
Monster Cabling for subs and sub amp

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. I had 3 CD's in the player, tried to eject, said "CD ERR". None of the CD functions would work. (play, eject, load, etc) I posted on several sites and got similar suggestions. I went to get in the car the next morning and the CD was sticking out of the player. After I removed that one, the rest of them ejected fine. Haven't had the problem again. I guess it reset itself.
Several people suggesting taking the battery cable (-) off for a while or overnight.
Others said a CD might be stuck at the edge of little cd door and to use another cd to slightly lift up on the stuck cd and it would eject.
