The dipstick tube has at least a couple of fairly sharp bends, through 3 or more planes, the twisted stick makes it easier to insert and withdraw--it's sort of like a flexible shaft. The twists have no impact on reading the level, or the accuracy of the readings, as the actual gauge at the end is straight and flat and the twistedsection is dimensionally stable along it's length...
well the reason i thought that maybe the reading would be inacurate is because twisting the metal like that naturally decreases the length of the stick.
Ford puts the twists in the dipstick, I'm sure they accounted for that when they put the markings on the end, anyway, mine also needs 6.5 after an oikl and filter change to read full, however the manula does state 6 quarts,,,, Maybe it's supposed to be 6 litres, that would be @ 6.5 quarts, or I seem to remeber something about ford having a recall involving dipsticks or the tube, somthing wasn't right when they switched from one design to another or something
