Default Subframe install..Carpet??How to?

I Have a 2004 mustang gt and I was wondering if you need to do anything with the carpet when your weld them? I head some people saying to put bags of Ice above where you will be welding with some wet towels?

Also what is the best brand out there to get and the one easiest to install? Also is there any site that shows good directions? Any tips on installing? Any info would be great I want to order these asap, just got my 3.73 put in now I want some suspension!

Thanks in advance
Chris

I really dont see how it gets that hot, I mean I know how hot welding gets but its welding on the frame, its not like I will be welding right on the floor board?

Anyone done it with the wet towels or ice bags? or none at all?

I've heard of the ice bag method. Definitely do something!

I saw pictures of a once beautiful Mach 1 that half of the interior burned out of because the welder didn't do anything to protect the interior.

You do not need to take out the carpet, the carpet does not touch the area you weld to.

if your welding so much you acutally get the floorpan (which is on top of the frame you weld to) hot you must have the underside of the car nearly glowing... way to hot.

i made my own sf connectors and didnt do anything to protect the carpet. you are welding on a piece of the subframe which is a good distance away from the carpet.

I installed and welded my own...Trick is,,,,weld little at a time....I held the framealittle further down(with my hand)(8 total sides to weld)...when it was to hot to touch,,I move to the back part of the carand then to the other side ....keep flipping back and fourth..Allowed time for the spot to cool abit before welding it again...Took few hours total..but no carpet fire and looks great...

It takes very little time to pull the carpet, I don't see why you wouldn't spend the time for cheap insurance. Just my .02

Even though this is posted in the wrong forum, I don't want to see you screw your car up.Here is the link to the installation instructions that came with my sub-frame connectors. No need to remove the carpet or even floodthe interiorwith melting ice.
