Default dead cobra...help

so i was on my way home today from joliet raceway (rout 66), and was doing some hard acceleration when all of a sudden the car sputtered and kept driving, i backed off a little and loooked over the gauges. thats when i noticed my tach going from 1 to 7 and every where inbetween, then my spedometer did the same thing, and then the f ing fuel gauge went from 1/4 to full and then empty. after that the car just died never to start again. it took 4 hours for the damn tow truck to come and then another hour to get back to my house (at like 9, i left joliet at 3:30 and its an hour drive home). i was tolled it was probably an alternator issue but im just looking for other advice as far as what this could be, thanks for the help

sounds like when the alternator died in my last car, gauges went haywire then i lost the radio. then i basicaly lost power everything so it was like trying to drive a car from the 20's. do you have aftermarket stereo, speakers, subs?

Yep, I would bet on an alternator. Everyone of my vehicles have done that when the alt. goes out driving.

I would suggest upgrading your alternator with a higher amp unit. Make sure you have a strong battery as well. It's hard on the electrical system with all that extra stuff you're running.
