Just recently,the "check engine" light has been coming on, in my stock '97 4.6. It stays on for 5-10 miles and then shuts off. It willstay off for awhile and then repeat the on/off sequence again. The engine appears to be running ok. Should it be checked?

well the on off means that it usually deals with emissions. Could be any air censor that affiliates with the air flow of your car. Just run by autozone they'll tell you what it is and you can erase it if you want but just might want to remember that you have a trouble code before you get your emissions done

Have you checked your gas top to make sure it is tight. I would go to autozone/pepboys and get them to scan for the code(free)..
