Bad battery fried alternator??
Well yesterday I went to leave work, and my battery was dead, or close to it, so I had to get a jump. I noticed that the day before it cranked over slower than usual and figured a new battery was in my near future. But anyways I got jumped and drive home through traffic for about 30-40 mins, almost home and my alternator takes a dump as I'm on the highway, so the car is barely running off what is left on the bad battery. It happened so fast when it fried that everything almost shut off as I drove, radio, and gauges. I managed to call a buddy and swapped out a good battery to limp it home so I could change the Alternator, but just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them, I mean I have never had an alternator crap out because of a dead battery before.

RE: Bad battery fried alternator??
It's not that it over works the alternator and burns it up. If a battery fails by shorting internally, it removes the resistance from the circuit (the battery is the main resistor in your electrical system). Remove the resistor and the alternator will burn up due to the increased current (not load).
