Default Veteran Stangbangers: Help a n00b out! Suspension noise!

Ok......

So my 02 GT vert makes an odd noise. The noise sounds like a very rapid "shick, shick, shick."

The noise only comes from the driver's side front wheel. The noise only occurs when I'm turning RIGHT.... never left, and never from the right wheel.

The car has 88k miles on it and is also making some rattling, soft clunk noises coming from the front end. I'm not looking for a diagnosis... just a few ideas I can check out. Everything looks fine at first inspection.

Any ideas?

if I had to guess your car is pretty low and the tire is rubbing on the inside of the fender (plastic part). I'd ALMOST bet on it.

Thanks for the idea, I will check that out. I pulled the wheel off and tried to look for signs of rubbing but didnt see any obvious signs. The car is bone stock, by the way. No suspension mods yet. Speaking of which, I am replacing the struts/shocks soon. Any recommendations? I want good equipment but not top of the line. I am on a student's budget. Thanks!

Any ideas other than the tire rubbing?

what bout grease fitings or the tie rod ends just get under the car check for lose bolts and ne thing that ratles or ne thing unusual i would jack that car up by the cross member or use a lift that lets the tires and suspension fully extend if u have access to itur clunk is very likely grease fitings

I had the wheel bearing suggested as the cause of the noise........ any takers on this idea?

If it's not something rubbing on the tire, wheel bearing is my guess.

I would put money on that it is the wheel bearing. Not to expensive to DIY. Could try it and see. . . Is it almost like a brake draging sound but when u turn . . .?

+1 on the wheel bearing, but it also might be a slightlywarped brakerotor or perhaps a loose brake pad that rubs when turning. Check the pads on that wheel for any uneven wear or glazing.

fwiw, when my wheel bearing went bad, the noise was all the time, not just while turning. [&:]
