Umm dude, you dont have rocker arms.[&:]It may very well be a timing chain problem.

when it is idleing u cant hear it at but u hear it pretty loud after u rev it up and the rpms are on going down. its kind of hard to pinpoint where the noise is coming from but it sounds like its comin from the back of the engine. the ticking noise starts between 2,000 and 2,500 rpms.

Its probably from having high miles on it mine did this for quite some time with no problems.Actually mygt did that sinceI bought it but it ran great soI never gave it much thought.I made it 20,000 miles or so on my gt no probs until it ate up my spark plug lol (not related to the ticking in any way.)If its a very loud ticking than you should get it checked out.

Wow I posted this problem back in December, now everyone and thier brother is having the same failure.. I ruled out spark plugs, so timing chain tensioner is the next route.

In any case taking valve covers off is pretty easy. All you need is an array of extensions, 1/48mm swival socket, and 1/4 ratchet.

The tick is "normal"... The SOHC heads are prone to developing a valve tick, no matter how they are run. We've got a 5.4 SOHC expedition, it's got 120k miles? Oil has been changed regularly and the thing has NEVER seen abuse, and the tick developed in the passenger side head at about 80k miles and it's still doing just fine. The passenger side head is known to develop a tick.

some ticking is normal but if it gets past a light ticking and gets fairly loud it can be somewhat of a problem. one thing i have found that not everyone knows about is if your car is a 99-03 gt and is still under warranty ford has a TSB out for this problem. they will check your cam gears, bolt tork,etc..and if this is ok they will replace your heads and cams to make the ticking go away.

is the ticking sound consistent with the engine rpm's? it may be as serious as a rod bearing or wrist pin.
