98 gt how do i adjust the clutch cable

RE: clutch adj

here's how I adjusted it on my 01, maybe it's the same maybe not, but here it is:

Get upside down under your dash. Follow the clutch pedal up to the firewall. You see a rod that kind of goes toward the gas pedal area. Attached to it is a white plastic gear. It should be a half circle or so. Follow the teeth around toward the fire wall. You'll see a little block of plastic with a couple of teeth on it that holds that gear in place. Put your finger on the back side of that little block of plastic, push down toward the floor board. You should hear a loud noise (careful though, scared the **** out of me) which is normal, the half white circle will release and any pressure on the clutch will release. This took my clutch release point from nearly the top of the pedal back down to the middle of the pedal where it probably should be. That little white block will take a little nuts to push on, so don’t be afraid or think it’s stuck.

Yea, but takes the risk of busting those teeth off and having no way of adjusting it. But to each their own.

Maybe you've got worn synchro's, mine was doing that into 2nd and 3rd, so I pulled the tranny and had it inspected and that's what the tranny guy found.
