Hello,

I have a very nice red 96 GT mustang convertible and although the car still looks pretty new it has 110,000 miles on it.
I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on how long the 4.6 engines generally last. What can I expect?
Can my car last another year or two? Has anyone gone beyond 140,000 miles?

There's no mods and the car has been driven like any other car. No racing..etc.

It still runs great although I'm sure it's not getting the horsepower it once had.

I'm trying to make some decisions so any info would be very helpful.

If you took really good care of it you could hit 200k miles...

Avg motor you're probably going to start to burn some oil around 120k

itll last 140, but 200 i wouldnt bet on that. ford isnt bmw or even honda LOL

im at 165000 and still cooken i rag on it a little well a little to much maybe and i pretty sure the previous owner did top speed runs it cause why else would he put 140+mph tires on it? well it leaks alittle oil from the pan and coolent seems to dissapear and so does the oil too. but it still runs fine but ive notice the mpg went down some but that is understanable cause all the miles on it. took it to the track twice and put like 8 runs on it and best time was 14.5 probley around 163000 miles on with a 2.0 60'. so that good for bein all stock. but the previous owner which was the original change the oil every 4000 miles. soo u can go a long ways on these motors.i put 5000 miles on it with in 5-6 months is that alot or no?

Eskine, 5-6K over that time span is average mielage. my 98 has 132K and runs strong, making great power on the stock bootom end despite having been beaten on for years by myself and the previous owner.

96-98 were 15 second cars at best. Sure yours is stock? 4.6L 215hp

the mod motor lasts and lasts - provided you take care o'er. keep it well lubed and the cooling system in top shape and you'll see 200k.

i ran across a guy at mid-america motorplex at one point he had your usual bolt on goodies and a set of cams. he was pushing around 160k and gave me a run for my money.
