Ok so I own a 01 gt and when I start the car in the morning, or whenever I haven't driven it in more than a few hours it makes a noise that almost sounds like a belt is going out, but I checked my belts and they're fine. also it only makes the noise when the manual transmission is in gear. any ideas what it might be so I can price out how much I might be paying so I don't get screwed by the mechanic? please help.

try this.....when the noise starts barely press in your clutch pedal BARELY I tell you.....If the noise goes away (and it probably will) it is your TOB...Throw out bearing. Very common problem with the stangs and usually gets fixed when you replace your clutch. If you do replace....do not be surprised if the noise comes back.

why will the sound come back? i've owned the car for going on three years and never have heard this before. ??????

I had a buddy of mine go through THREE of them on his MACH 1 before it stopped making the noise (well...he sold it before it would make the noise)...seems common.....Do a search on it and see for yourself.

its common my friends did it and started doin it again after he replaced the clutch even though he put a new tob in.
