you'd have to use a swivel to get at those bolts, they can be a b!tch

The one on top is the easier of the two. Is this your GT engine or 4V? Anyway, it's easiest to use a swivel socket and to go from on top of the mid pipe. And,of course, use some kind of Pb blast.

I have done three midpipes on 4.6's in the last 2 months and only one of them was able to come off simply using sockets and pb blaster. I used a 18mm deep socket, universal(swivel), and about 16inch of extensions ( all 3/8, the 1/2 sizes will be hard to get in there). The other two that i did we had to buy a handheld torch from pep boys heat the bolt up and we smacked the bolt with a hammer for a lil bit then used a 19mm socket to get it off. And lastly one we were swapping in shorty's so we just cut the bolt because it was rusted as hell and would not budge. Make sure that the midpipe is still tight to the catback because otherwise the midpipe preassure on the bolt because it'll hang will make it hard to get the bolts off.
GO OVERBOARD ON THE PB BLASTER THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THEN AGAIN EARLY IN THE MORNING!!

alright thanks, we were using a 1/2 drive socket and we couldn't get a swivel on there just because it wouldn't meet the clearance, but i'll try what you said then and work at it.

Get yourself a few extra swivels, you may need them (I did). And again - the PB Blaster - can't reiterate that enough. Be liberal with that.
