Default Mustang Dying! Please help!

My 1997 GT is dying right after turning on. It starts up just fine, but then immediately dies out. It will stay on so long as I accelerate the engine, but it dies out the moment I take my foot off the pedal. The car has only about 35K miles on it, so I'm thinking it might be sometime minor and obvious. Any help would be appreciate it. It's stuck in the parking structure at school, and I would like to get it out of there ASAP. Thanks!

Could be many things, but I am going to say its in the fuel system. You can change out the filter in minutes (As long as you get the tool...), try that first. Its cheap and easy.

Also, check out the sticky on the IAC.

It could be a couple of things...one your alternator..two your Idle Air Control Valve....three..fuel pump

It's either your IAC or you TPS. First thing to do is start the car while someone taps on the TPS. If it goes straight dead after startup without trying to idle at all then that's most likely your problem. If that doesn't fix it then replace the IAC.

I would say its the IAC. I had the exact same problem as you are describing. After post and searching the forums here I had options. I took off the IAC and sprayed it pretty good with some carb cleaner and have not had the problem since. Good luck bro I know the feeling.

mine has this same exact problem, exept when its "messing up" (randomly) I cant keep it running. Ive even tached it out upon starting, then it just died, no matter how much I pumped the gas. When this happens, if I keep the key on, the car just cranks, no fire. I have to turn the key off than back on and try again. Sometimes it'll be the next start, and the car runs, then sometimes 10mins later im still sitting there embarassed and pissed off. [:@]

Not trying to steal your thread punkrockracer....just having a similar problem needing fixing too

p.s. all this didnt start for me until I did my intake swap+tb/plenum. IAC isnt the problem, I put a new one in, started it, died.[:@] Maybe time for some sort of tune?? Thanks....

97, it could be your MAF sensor isn't connected properly.

As for Punkrock, I would almost definitely blame your IAC.

Start with changing the fuel filter.....if it doesnt work...check the fuel pressure....from there it may be electrical.
