Default RE: Brake Noise??

Just an update on that my brake problem.... Midas had quoted me 800 bucks to change the rear rotors, calipers, and front rotors, and it turns out that the cause of the entire problem of my passenger rear brake was that one of the two valve springs of the caliper bracket had frozen up which messed up how my pads were wearing. I replaced the one part along with the rear rotors and slapped some new pads on, spending around 80 bucks opposed to 800!!!

just a word of advise do not ever bring your car to midas again the rear caliper slide pins are notorious for feezing up due to lack of lubrication i am a ford tech and i would have spotted that right away.for the record midas said that both calipers needed replacement but only one was messing up why replace 2 and then if i understand correctly they gave you 2 different stories.thats f#@%ed up.
they suck.your dad had the right idea of doing the work yourself.apparently midas didnt inspect your brakes tottally or they would have gave you a correct estimate remember they work on commision too but i do my job right.

Yeah I'm glad we didn't waste the money, but I had a question about something that happened while we were changing the pads. In order to put the new pads in you have to turn a part of the caliper back in and we were able to do this with the right side but the left side would not turn back in after turning it forever. Any ideas on what I can do? I took it to a few shops around town and they gave me some BS that it would cost 60 bucks for them to look at it cause it is probably a bad caliper that they'd have to replace. Any help would be great guys.

you must mean the piston. Those have to be pushed in with a tool. It could be frozen.

If your talking about the piston that needs to be sunk back in to allow clearance for the new thicker pads, they are just pushed back in. Use a "C" Clamp, take the cover of the resivor and keep on eye on the level, because as you push back in, the level goes up and will spill over.. I use a turkey baster to remove the extra fluid.. Wife gets pissed but adds a nice flavor for the holiday dinners.

On my 99 it can't be pushed in, you need a special tool that twists the piston. I used the tool on the right side and it worked fine, so I guess it could be frozen.
