How far is all the way? Yes it sounds like rattling, popping noises, I know because my g/f's car does it when she doesnt put premium gas in... It will do it while increasing acceleration, or at WOT... My g/f's car is a 5.0 with the timing at I believe 15*and sometimes itstill detonates even when she puts premium in it..

Edit: It would probably be better to start off the timing where you were and just go up lil by lil, then if you hear the slightest detonation, back it out..just my $.02

That's exactly the sound I get with my AM tune. I hear it only under part throttle mostly in overdrive from around 1800-3000 rpm's.
I backed down the timing as much as I could, but it still makes the sound as long as the tune is loaded. It does not make it with the stock tune. I think I am going to get a Brenspeed tune soon and see if that fixes it.

It should be worst at maximum load. 5th gear at about 40 MPH and floor it - it will happen if it's going to!

I know I suggest this to everyone that asks about pinging, but check your plugs and see if they are gapped properly. When I bought my car it did the same thing with 93 and my plugs were burnt slap up like it still had factory plugs with 100k+ miles.
