Default rear end....hopefully FIXED!!!!

ive noticed for the past couple weeks, a weird moaning noise from my rear end, only turning and accelerating while turning , today, i did the cheapest/easiest thing, i changed the oil. like most write, it had metal flakes in it, but while i was under there i noticed two things, first thing, my mufflers have tiny holes in them, why would it be eating away like that? is ther moisture through them? is that normal for them to go that soon, its an 03 with 55,000 miles, secondly, when i opened the back case of the rear end, i noticedscore marks on the diff gears? would that be normal wear? there not groved or anything, just shinny, and the rest of the gear is dull?!! please say yea, those are big money and a pain to fix right? but since ive changed the oil. i took her on the e-way and let it open up a few times, to get it warm, and then circled the parking lot in both directions, and no more noise? has anyone else went through this? if so, will the noise come back? THANKS!!

it sounds like the backlash on your gears wasn't set correctly..what brand gears do you have? the mufflers have pinholes in them? have you let the car set for an extended period of time?
