Need suggestions from resourcefulness masters
My Father has a 98 GT cnvrt with 41K miles. The fuel pump went out, so my brother got it cranked with ether and kept it running until he emptied the can.
I am going out on a limb here and just assume thats where the holes came from in the two pistons.
Anyway, he just wants to get rid of it at this point.
Any suggestions? A shop will rebuid or drop a rebuilt in for around $2,750 - $3,000, but then the car's value drops considerable (forget the 41K original with a rebuilt in there) and its almost not worth the hedache (I hate dealing with shops period).
If it was a chevy, I could just buy a shorty from summit with a serious HP upgrade for around $2,500-$3,000 and maybe still sell it for around 8K.
They don't have much in the way of 4.6L though, nor does jegs.
Will a 302 just bolt right in, no problem? Any suggestions or ideas would, well, you really don't know how much a vialble option would mean to me and my father at this point.
Thank you in advance.

If it was me, and I was going to get rid of the car, I would find another cheap *** NPI 4.6L 2v in a junkyard for about 300-500 bucks, pay a shop to drop it in for a couple hundred, and sell it. There isn't any reason the value should drop, having another engine in the car isn't a reason to drop the value, and in any case I see little reason to tell the next owner it was even replaced unless it has a signfiicantly different number of miles compared to what the odo says.
