Default Harmonic Balancer? or something else

I have a clicking noise coming from under the hood I traced the sound from the harmonic balancer. I noticed that the bolt was loose enough forme to spin with my fingers. So I cranked the bolt down and the clicking stopped. Today I noticed the sound and once again the bolt is loose; the harmonic balancer has a slight wobble to it but nothing violent. Do I need to replace the harmonic balancer? Will I cause damage by tightening the bolt? Do I have bigger problem on my hands than what I think? Please somebody help me out I would appreciate it.

You mean thetension pulley?
If it is, yes, get a new one. If it's your crank pulley, you have an issue that needs to be fixed yesterday.

The harmonic balancer is the large lower middle pulley.? I don't think I mean the tension pulley. Does the harmonic balacner need replaced or is something else casuing the problem.

That thing should not come loose. Never heard of one coming loose before. Get a torque wrench and torque it down to it's specifications and then go from there. I wouldn't drive the car until it's corrected 100%

Not sure. Does the washer come out too or just the bolt? The washer should be held in there with some gasket maker to keep oil from leaking out. If oil is getting by the washer it might be a reason why the bolt came loose. Check to maek surethe washer is in there and then torque the bolt down. Then check it out for noises.

The washer does not come out the bolt really doesn't come out it is just loose enough to turn by hand. I don't notice any oil but I will give it a thorough inspect. again and see what I find.

Yeah if the washer is in there and there is no oil then you should be fine (it wouldnt be a ton of oil anyways), no need to try to pick the washer out or anything. Just torque that bolt back up and check for noises and wobbling.

Okay pal thanks for your help much appreciated. I think ultimately the hamonic balancer needs replaced maybe the rubber element has deteriorated. The stang is a 98 (a lil aged)and appears to be the stock balancer.
