Default Shifter Grinding

A while back I installed an MGW short shifter in my 01 GT (Trema 3650 transmission) and in the last month of so the shifter has been grinding. It only happens going into 3rd from 2nd but it like stop and then needs a little extra umph to get it in and when it pops in it makes a small grinding sound. Any idea on what this sound is and how to fix it?

Sounds like the infamous T-3650 3rd gear synchro going bad on you. There is a TSB on these trannys for this problem, seems they used really shi**y parts when first assembled.

It may not be blown but its on its way. The bullitin for this is TSB 04-15-6, grinds into 2nd or 3rd gear, jumps out of 2nd or 3rd gear, use replacement kit # 3R3Z-7124-AD to replace 1-2 and 3-4synchro assemblys, 1-2 and 3-4 shift forks. Plus a bunch of other parts. If your car is still under warranty then bring it to Ford for the rebuild, no cost to you, if no warranty then your SOL on this, good luck.

FYI: When I had this done (under warranty) the dealer said it would have been about $1500 if I had paid for it myself. But it fixed the grind. I was getting it on 1-2 and 3-4 shifts in cold weather. It's been 3 years and 25000 miles with no probems since.
