Don't you all think he would be better off with a 8 inch rim on the back for a 275? My 275s are fitting on a 7 inch rim atm, seems like a 8 would be about right, but a 10 should be streching them a bit on the rim?
I've found from racing over the years...a smaller rim on a larger treadtire tends to wear the centers out faster then the rest of the tire ..soI opted for a tread widthalmost matching the rim size for better wear(and contact pattern)..A smaller rim on a larger tire will net a larger sidwall(better flex at launch)and more growth on topend. I ran a 32x14x15 on a 12.5 wide rim...gained 3 mph and 60's where tiny bit better...but the centers wore out from the good burnouts (ever watch a tiregrow in the burnout box?)....I'll prob go to a 295 soon as these wear out(just for tire height).....looks like sometime next season...LOL....As I've got a solid 60 plus passes on these and still look great....Of course I haven been doin any john force burnouts either...

what kind of cornering can you expect with 4 to 5 inch rims on the front...im sure nothing insanely fast but ive been told anything over 20 will slide you into a ditch...anyone know about that???
No...Just drive with some common sense around corners and you'll be fine...
and my front rim is a 3 1/2....with no front Sway bar...

M/T suggest this.....

"Acceptable practice for rim width is tread width plus or minus 1'.

andapproved rim width for this tire is 7.5 to 9.5....but then refer to the top statement....and tread width is 10.4....for the 275....

Changing from a 275 toa 315 is not going to cause the rearend to blow. If the tire is sticky enough to break the 8.8 on a 315, its sticky enough to do so on a 275 as well.

If your running a nitto you PROBABLY don't have to worry about this... but it could aways happen. Anything stickyer than a nitto and your taking your chances if you launch too hard.

For the record, I have left at 4000 and 4500 RPM on MT ET streets with my current power level, and the only 8.8 mod being the t/a rear girdle and studs.
