Default Spraying in 5th

How bad is it, or can it be. I will probally need toonce I get my juice hooked up. Right now I am good to 110mph, but i have to hold 4th untill 6200rpm. I wont be able to do that anymore so I will most likely be shifting into 5th at the end of the 1/4. Is it ok to still pray in 5th. If so how long?

Dude...5th gear in the 1/4mile??? No way not even with 4:56's. I ran my car from getting on the highway at 50mph. I dropped it into 3rd and started to spray. I never let up until I was at about 160mph. Then boom! Bent a valve or scorched a piston or something??? The car ran beatiful all the way up until I let my foot off the gas! I drove it for 40 miles without stopping. Got home and had 2 plugs with the electrodes flattened to the ceramic and one plug that was blown apart! The back two cylinders took most of the brunt. More Nitrous flows to those cylinders. Don't do 5th gear and don't do 6200rpms!!! You shouldn't be touching Nitrous after 54-5500rpms where your power band ends! Your rev limiter will kick in at 6200 and then you be screwed! Nitrous with no fuel?????? Unless you have a safety switch. Not good for the internals on your engine to break out of power and then right back into like that!

I can only get 110mph out of 4th gear, but I have to take it to 6200rpm to get there. I know I cant do that anymore because I wont be able to spray past 6k. So I will either be letting out early or shifting into 5th. So far though you guys are saying no spray in fifth, correct.

I sprayed in 5th gear twice at the track and both times the car stalled when I let off the gas. Not good, talk about an uneasy feeling doing 110+ at the track and the engine dies, no powersteering, no power brakes! The only way to spray to 6200 is if the rev limiter has been raised. You can always go with a taller time, that's what I had to do.

How tall are your tires? I have 4.30's and I can hold 4th up to 108. I would imagine you could get a little more MPH out of the 4.10's.

If you are refering to me they are 28's. I'll probably be trapping around 125mph. I was trapping 116.

No, sorry, my mistake. I was trying to ask the OP.

You should NEVER EVER have to shift into 5th gear in the 1/4. If you do, your combo is off (ie too much gear, too little rear tire, too low of a rev limtier etc). Setting a car up to run the best on spray means a compromise when you are running N/A.

I really want to get 3:73's because I hate how 4th runs off so fast. Well I guess I will have to get bigger tires. So spraying in 5th is an absolute no no.

people dont realize the real only reason the make so many different ratio rear gears is to match you rpm and rear tire combo, buy the best tires, the tallest, then buys gears to match
