Good idea on the charcoal.
I'd get them to drive it about 2-3 miles every so often, but no need to go more than once a week for sure. If you could somehow ensure it would be in a dry climate (not too much humidity), it probably wouldn;t need it more than once a month. You'll need to disconnect the battery if you go that long probly though. Otherwise it may be dead (depending what small drains you have with the car off).

RE: Car sitting up
I don't drive my car in the winter. I disconnect the battery, put two pans of charcoal in the car and one in the trunk. I also put this thing that I think is made from mothballs but doesn't smell like moth ***** under the hoodto keep the critters away. I've heard mothballs under the hood make the AC/ventstink when you start itupin the spring. Then I plug the exhaust pipes with brillo pads to again keep the critters out.Next timeI'm going to use something else as they made little rust spots in the pipes. Then I just cover it up with a good outdoor cover and leaveit all winter, and spend the winter cursing at the evil white stuff on the ground.
