Default Need some Help?

Ok I was sitting in my car waiting to pick up kids from school. When all of a sudden I heard a loud pop. The air started turning warm, so I turned the car off. Now when I start it there is a tick coming from the front end. I want to wait until someone else gets home to lok at it with me. I am just trying to get ideas on what it could be. So anyhelp would be great thanks.

well I let it cool down, and went out to crank it. It cranks fine but as soon as the air is turn on the tensior pully jerks and it starts making the noise again.

+1. The clutch on my compressor went out last year and did the exact same thing.

Depends on cost....A complete compressor assembly is around 200 to 250...and then if theres any shavings(aluminum or black rubber)(orblack death )in the system you'll want to replace the orfice tube,,,flush everything out..and replace the dryer. So,you couldget a few bucks tied up if you plan on doing it right....Then after you flush and install everything you'll need to take it somewhere and have it evacuated down andfilled.Having a shop do the complete job, easy 800 to 1100.00 .Doing most yourself can save you 400 to 500 in labor and markup.Thing is,compressormanufactures requiresshops to replace the Orfice or expansion valve, dryer and flush everything(with aproved flushing agent)or warranty on the compressor is void.Sometimes depending on the car,,they require replacement of the condenser also, tubes are too small to flush and get all the debris out..Good luck with it....A/C idler Bypass FTW...

You'd probably be better of trying to find another compressor from a junkyard.

Well, after I went and bought the compressor, orfice tube, and the drier. We took the compressor out. And well there was nothing wrong with it. It felt fine. There was no shavings in it at all. So we went ahead and put the new one on. And well it still made the same noise. So we searched hard. And found it. It was the fan. And after takling the motor all the way apart and messing with that, it worked fine. Well it ended up being the fan blade broke. So from what I have found out, isthat you have to buy the whole shroud kit. And well it is a holiday so it will be sometime next week. Thanks for everyones help. Oh yeah, by the way,. I have a used compressor that works good if any one is interested. Thanks
