Default Loss of Compression

I am looking to buy a 99 gt in the near future and the guy says that it has a loss of compression in cylinder 3. First off, what exactly does this mean and how expensive is it to fix? The car is definately a really good deal, but hopefully this wont be too expensive to fix. Someone help me out here. Thanks

various reasons for loss of compression. bad piston, bad valve, who knows. If u think ur gettin a good deal, ur not. just to take off the head to see what is going on costs soo much in labor, if ur not doin it urself.

Could be fried piston rings, not easy fix as it involves tearing down the motor and pulling the rods/pistons out to replace the rings

well its a 2000gt with 36k miles, full exhuast, leather interior, Vortech supercharger, short shifter, 42lb injectors, saleen kit and rims, eibach springs, cobra hood, upper and lower control arms, 3.73's, and lots more. Its basically a mint car an he only wants 8k for it. So im wondering if it is worth it with the loss of compression in cylinder 3. Will it still run? Thanks guys

well it should still run, but u lose a lot of power with the loss of compresssion, and it will only get worse. i would say it is definitely not worth it. The guy is selling the car for only 8k. that should tell u that he felt it wasnt cost effective to keep the car. all his upgrades put together probably cost him that much. motor is probably on its last straw.

Probably on stock internals so the motor is toast. Not worth it. I'm guessing he took it to the track quite a bit or ran the shiz out of it based on his mods.

Don't buy that car. Stay far away from it. The reason he's selling it for only 8K is because the motor is hurt, and he just wants to get rid of it.
