Default 98 off road x pipe

i have a 98 cobra and i am putting an off road x pipe on it. there is this MIL elminator and said its necessary if your not running cats. said it would turn of the check engine light that comes on. so my question is do i REALLY need this thing and if i dont get it will it hurt my car?

yes, you need it. if your MIL is always on, you wouldnt know if something else was wrong because the light is already on for the sensor. it will also throw off your computer because it won't be getting a signal. the eliminators send the ecu a false signal telling it everything is A-ok. the plug in ones are what i have, and are a good mod. and with a good dyno tune/chip, you wouldnt have a problem either.

You can either get the mil eliminators or get your ECU reprogrammed. Either way I highly recommend them. Whether or not having mil eliminators actually affects performance if you don't have cats is an ongoing debate. Some people say your computer goes into "limp" mode and pulls timing and adds fuel to the mixture, and other people say it has absolutely no effect on performance, so I can't say either way. I've seen on other forums where Ford technicians themselves argue over it. To me it seems like there's a difference, because I swear my car lost a little power and was eating more fuel, but maybe it was in my head. Either way, if you are going to get them, save yourself $30 and buy the PEP eliminators and splice them in yourself. http://www.mileliminators.com/ Anybody who is smart enough to operate a pair of scissors is capable of splicing them in.

Definitely need MIL eliminators without cats. What state do you live in? Don't throw away your old cat pipes, you'll need them to pass emissions inspection. No catless Mustang on the planet will pass that test.

I did To get rid of my mil light I unhooked the battery for 10mins and then the light wont come back on untill you drive the car for so many miles, after that went to the test and passed with flying colors!
