you can use water just take some plastic and tape and cover the coils air filter and fuse box and spray some degreaser and engine cleaner and rinse it off

i would not suggest hosing down the engine i did and water got down were the spark plugs are. best thing to do imo is get a bottle of simple green and a bunch of towels and clean by hand comes out very good.

I sprayed mine down. I just didn't spray it full blast when it came close to the electrical parts and such. I don't remember if I used degreaser first than sprayed it down or vise versa. Everthing went fine and just followed instructions and came out with below...

you shouldnt damage anyting with just water... as long as you let it fully dry before running it again... DO NOT do the following.... spray it with water while it is warm, hot, or running!! This is just asking for a warped or cracked head!
