I have a 01 GT auto with a SCT tune. I increased the 1-2 shift pressure 20% and left the rest of the tranny setting alone. I did start to get a 2-3 shift error code which pointed to a leaky 2-3 shift accumulator. I did a little more research and discovered that since the pressure in the transmission has been increased (by the SCT tuner in order to achieve the crisper shifts) I needed to add a transmission cooler. I bought one from Summit for about 30 bucks installed it in about 1 hour and the code has never returned.
So I guess that I am saying it would be a good investment to add an external cooler for your auto

when i was stock the 1-2 shift pressure was high from the factory.. i just adjusted the 2-3 and i wouldnt touch the 3-4 as the OD band is the weak point. a tranny cooler is a MUST if you raise the internal pressure in your transmission, as it will generate more heat. i also change the 3-4 shift point to 45 mph as i was tired of it going into OD in traffic at 35 and then upshifting when we speed up.

ohh, hmm since your car is a powerful auto i have a question like usually when i punch the car from40-50 i dnt feel power, is that cuz its auto and it cant downshift like a manual. i hoping the sct can solve a lot of my problems, i also got a 180 degree thermostrat, EGR delete plate and a IAC restrictor would that help my shifting at all or engine temp too? i think i need water wetter ..correct?

when youre going 40-50 im assuming youre in OD... when you punch it you downshift to 3rd when if you wanna get going you need to be in second. Punching it in OD will break your transmission, GUARANTEED. The OD band cant hold up to it.. so when youre cruising and anticipate a race shut the OD off so the car goes into 3rd.. then when you punch it you will end up in the top end of second.

as for the temp.. you dont really need any other thermo than what came from the factory until you go F/I. the 180 COULD be hurting you as the head temperature isnt getting to peak temp, but im not 100 percent sure on this.

if its not these items, it could be the EGR, as air from the EG is recirculated (hence EGR) back into the motor to be re-used. you could actually be running rich assuming the computer isnt tuned/isnt compensating for this. im not sure what you mean about "water wetter"?

To those of you that have installed tranny coolers, how hard is it? Is it something that I should havea shop do, or is something that a run of the mill garage mechanic can do? Thanks.
