Did rear brakes, caliper cage hits rotor!?
So me and a guy in my shop did my rear brakes last friday, easyenough, and on the way home I hear a noise coming from the left rear on certain bumps and some turns. I get out at the bank and I see the caliper cage is touching outside of the rotor and touch it to see how bad its scraping, OUCH HOT, stupid move.
We took it all apart yesterday and put it back together checking everything went together right and is tight. Checked the boxes the rotors came in, they are the same. The cage only touches on the drivers side. Would it be a bad idea to shim the cage to sit in the middle.
Today we are taking both sides apart again to see if everything is exactly the same, left and right, if noone has any idea what may be wrong.
Thanks

RE: Did rear brakes, caliper cage hits rotor!?
Strange, I can't really see this being an issue unless:
A) Caliper is warped
or
B) Caliper mounting bracket is bent
The first obviously requires a new caliper (as a temporary solution, you can grind away the part of the cage that is hitting the rotor). The second... well that REALLY SHOULDN'T happen... but who is to say it wouldn't have. The only way to test this would be to replace the caliper, if it still grinds, well...

Did you compare the old rotors to the new ones, not just making sure the rotor boxes were the same... I work at Advance and have seen sealed boxes from the supplier have the wrong rotors in the box... Check that before you get into expensive and time consuming caliper changing... Good luck

RE: Did rear brakes, caliper cage hits rotor!?
I took it apart at my shop(work). Switched left and right caliper cages and rotors, still touches. I took out a tape measure and the axle is sitting 4 centimeters out farther on the driver side than the passenger side[:-], which sits perfectly in the middle.I dont know whats wrong but everything seems right and nothing has changed since I got my rear end done with 31 spline axles and 4.10's 5 months ago other than change old to new pads and rotors right now. So I took nice and strong, thick washers and put in between the ears on the axle tube and the cage to push it out like 2 tenths. I think this will work but will update if it all goes to sh*t.
If anyone has any ideas why my driver axle sits out 4centimeters than please speak up and give me ideas.
Thanks for trying to help
