RACK AND PINION!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS
So i took my car in for a check up (not at a dealership) and i had it up in the air and my mechanic jim noticed that the right boot on my rack and pinion was wet. He then pulled back on it and power steering fluid just started to flow out, not drip but FLOW. Long story short it's gonna be like $330 for a whole new rack and pinion. After labor its gonna be like high 600's. Any one else had this problem? How much did you pay? Plus my Stang has 98000 miles

this job is rather easy if you do it yourself, it's not hard pulling it off and getting another from checker or autozone, I paid $200 after the core return, and was really easy to put in, and another $50 for an alignment. Just a warning tho, if you get a reman one, make sure it's not worn out, put mine in and it feels like an old *** fox body with 500k on it, I have a lifetime warranty on it, but just sucks to do it all over again and the $50 for another alignment

If i remember right, a couple tube nut wrenches, 10mm, 15mm, 18mm and pair of needle noses will get the rack out. Hardest part is getting the steering shaft off the rack...but there's a window in the k-member to access it. If you feel mechanically inclined, i would say do it yourself, just have some ATF to refill the system with when your done
