Default Transmission question on 96 GT

Is there a six speed tranny that can be bolted up to the 4.6 in a 96 GT? If there is, does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how it would work out in the car?

Very expensive! It won't just bolt in without some modifications to your driveshaft and wiring. You'll also need a new crossmember. Ohh, I wouldn't even bother with a 6 speed unless you have 4:11's or greater in the diff. That's why the 6 speed is nice, drop those 4:56's down to prairie gears on the highway! Save your money and get something worth while for your application

So rebuilding my 5speed is my best bet? I'm a new mustang owner, and the stang I got needs a lot of love, she came from a bad home.

I wouldn't rebuild a T45. I did that with stronger parts and it still crapped out on me. I recommend a TKO 500 or 600.

Thats only for the viper spec, with a .50 6th gear. The standard version found in the 03/04 Cobra has a .62 6th gear, same as the TR3650. The t56 first gear is either 2.97 or 2.66 (depending on the model) vs the 3650's 3.37. So either way, you need a steep final drive (forget about highway performance) or a ton of power to get the car moving.

Will the TKO 500/600 bolt in?

Yeah, I feel really stupid now, I forgot that I had reinstalled the air tube for the intake ( I had it off for like a week while I was looking for a new clamp) and after I put it all back together I never cleared the fault from the MAF. But thanks for all the help!!! I appreciate it.
