Default Stock Intake... Boot or no boot?

Right now I still have my stock intake w/ a K&N Filter on. I took that "boot" off just for fun. My question is should I leave it on? Its seems to get dirty real fast w/ it off. What do you guys think?

By boot I mean that rubber "whatever" that comes off the intake to take the filter into the wheel well.

People call it the snorkel. Leave it out.

theres a ton of names for it. leave it off it restricts the crap out of air flow, everyone that has stock intake does that.

I read a post on here a while back. Someone did a before and after dyno test. Removing the snorkle lost about 2 hp. Just some FYI.

I took the old K&N filter out cuz i didnt have any cleaning compound.. bought some today... lets see if theres a diff.....

on that note... what would "Cutting" the entire stock "housing" do? you know it only has that "hole" but what if I cut it so that it resembled the aftermarket intakes?

Actually there were a couple of tests floating around. Most found a slight gain, but on some cars there was a slight loss.
I've been searching but the only one I can locate is the "bolt on" article which does show a gain.

It's like anything else with these cars, some act differently.
EIther way it's such a small amount it won't matter much which is why unless you are going for the look or FI, you should't waste money on a CAI.
Just drop a good filter in the box and remove the snorkle. Heck it sounds better if anything
