Default PI swap question/ Car dilemma- UPDATE

Im looking at a 99gt with 60k miles and some bolt-ons for $4000 (yeah its a damn good deal) but i also found a 98gt with 85k, a PI head swap, port and polish, full exhuast and a few other bolt-ons. I have heard that the non PI sn95s (96-98) will make more power than the PI (99+) if the swap is done. Is this true? How much rwhp do you think the 98 would be at, and what would you guys do? the 99 is a REALLY good deal. Opinions?

UPDATE SCROLL DOWN

It's nearly impossible to guess what HP the 98 would be at since you don't know exactly how worked the heads are. You say they are P&P, so they are going to be a decent amount better than the 99's plain heads. I'd say a random guess with what you know is somewhere between 275 and 300. How much is the 98? For $4000 I'd probably go for the 99 with 60k miles and use some extra money to do a little work myself.

The 96-98 GTs make a tad more HP because of the bump in compression the PI swap gives. I would pick the one that looks like it been taken care of, The 99 seems like a good deal and with lower mileage.

Any pictures?

Just go with which curves you like better and what car you think has been taken care of. I would have loved to buy an already swapped 98 gt. I love high compression ! An advantage is the car revs quicker then stock mustangs. As soon as i got in after my swap it felt and by watching the tach seemed like i was running boost. Good luck on your decision.

My heads are not p&p and I made 271 so a good port job should be aroun 300 which would be nice, I wish I hadn't been short on money when the heads were at the machine shop.

any other opinions? They are 2002 heads if that helps at all? Will either of them respond to mods better? Are there any major problems people have had with the PI swap? Thanks guys

There wouldn't be any major problems with PI swaps because for the most part it's a direct swap. It's the exact same everything, but in 99 Ford realized how crappy the 96-98 4.6s were and ported out a bit more to get a decent jump in horsepower. Of course, if you have PI heads that have been further ported, they'd do even better (and even with the PI upgrade, the heads were still conservatively ported, just about all stock cars are). The most ported PI heads will respond better to mods because you're getting more air flow which is the number one killer of our 2V engines. Everything you do to the engine will come to a point where you are restricted due to lack of flow.

alright well i called the kid with the 99 and he says it has Reconstructed title. All of the body is fixed and everything but the airbag needs to be repacked. Now which car would you choose, or how much should i offer for the 99? $4200 is already a pretty damn good deal.

My $.02, I wouldn't by any performance car that's been "reconstructed" unless you know who did the work and trust them with your life. If you don't know and trust whoever did the work on the 99, go with the 98.

F that. Dont buy a wrecked car, 99.99999% of the time you'll regret it.
