thanksFrostByte, i was likingthat idea"MLAX"cause i live in delaware but push rods? i have rebuilt a4.6 before with 00tropicGT when his went but it was just the top end and the dealers just told me all my bearings and my crank was off balance i drove it to the dealer it made a banging noise so iam sure the top end of the motor is fine. i wish ford would just tell me exactly what is wrong with it!

RE: I need a new motor!
you need to be talking to a mustang performance shop, they can set you up and install you a much better than stock setup for far less than 7100 bucks.
BTW, what exactly is your car doing? I find it hard to believe that hte motor is acutally blown but its driving fine to the dealer?

If you're trying to minimize cost start by taking the motor out yourself. You can buy a hoist, leveler and engine stand for about 200 bucks. Youll pay probably close to 1000 to have someone else pull it out. Then, if the top end is fine, look for a stock shortblock and drop that in. With gaskets and stuff, you should be able to have it done for under 1000.
I just did this with mine (had the same problem you did, bearings and crank were shot), got the shortblock for 650 shipped out of an 03 with 17000 miles. If you go that route make sure you get it from a reputable person.
Otherwise, if you've got some spare chage do the same as above, but order a forged shortblock from some one like VTengines, MMR, DSS etc.. And assemble and drop it back in yourself. Its not very hard. Unless you have money, time, tools and space I wouldn't suggest an entire rebuild (new crank, rods pistons etc.)yourself.
