Default steering for an 01 GT

Does anybody know or can anybody tell me, what makes the steering wheel have a lot of play in it? If your going down a road, the steering wheel moves between 1 to 2"'s befores it effects the wheels at all. Any help pin pointing this will be appreciated.

cobra's, mach's, Saleen's have close ratio racks in them. The GT's have regular ratio. This means looser steering wheel for the GT guys. Your tire size, spring ratio, bushings all can have an effect on your steering respone as well. My steering got much stiffer after my 18's with low pro's and supesion lowering!

is a trade of gearing box worth it? If I get one of the cobras, machs, or slaeens gear box would it make enough of a difference to be worth the price?
