Default MGW Shifter Question

The car I just bought is supposed to have a new tranny and a new MGW Shifter, well my question is....(and this goes for all aftermarket shifters)..when it is put into gear, you shouldn't be able to move the shifter side to side while its in gear, correct? If so then I'm f-ing confused but if not, how could I fix this problem?

Wow, that can't be good....

No it shouldn't move at all. Mine's as solid as a rock in gear...

I seem to remember another guy who had this problem a few months ago. Do a quick search in 4.6...it should be there somewhere.

Otherwise that, I don't know what to tell you besides making sure youdid the install correctly...did you use the stops BTW?

There is (or supposed to be) a plastic button/glide on the lower ball end of the shift lever--if is is deteriorated or missing (it has to be transfered from the OEM shifter--some people have difficulty reading and following instructions) there will be excessive play...

ok, I will take a look at that. Will I need to buy one from the factory or can I find one at an auto-parts store?

I would imagine it's going to be a dealer supplied part, however I can't imagine it being a wildly expensive piece--send MGW a message, they may have one or be able to point you in the right direction...
