5.4 swap?

RE: 5.4 swap?
I believe all the 5.4 liter engines produced are all Iron based blocks. But SHM makes an aluminum 4.6 and 5.4 block very much over kill for street use, but they do make them. At $4600 for just the block its a rather expensive proposal.

RE: 5.4 swap?
I don't recall the manufacturer, but someone (maybe fontana), makes an aluminum 351 based block. I read that on a Ford - Pantera forum. I just know that there are a lot of drawbacks to adding weight to the front of a car. I prefer not to!!

RE: 5.4 swap?
Dart makes push rod based aluminum blocks. 302 and 351. They are still rather expensive. But both 5.4 and 4.6 and 302 and 351 aluminum blocks can with stand 2000hp.

Taking weight off of the front will move the center of balance rear ward. Which is better for handling.

RE: 5.4 swap?
That 460 is super inefficient... You can make WAY more hp out of a 460 than that.
Why do a 5.4L swap? Then you still don't have all forged internals...
Do a 5.8L swap, get a quality block, a forged rotating assembly, Trickflow/AFR (huge selection) heads/intake, roller cam, and make HUGE power, esp. w/ FI.
Just makes more sense to me.

RE: 5.4 swap?
I have a 331 stroker and a 4.6 liter. There two different animals to me. I prefure having the latest technology, no chevy V-8 there is DOHC or even Dodge, that I know of. The modular's sound sick! With the DOHC heads out flow almost any aftermarket head you can put on a small block ford. I would get a cobra 4.6 crate engine. Its got an aluminum block, forged steel crank, forged steel rods, and forged pistons. And aluminum four vlave heads. Whats better than that. You can make 1000hp to the crank on the stock internals. The 5.4 liters are Iron blocks with forged crank but arent as strong when it comes to the rods and pistons. so probably need to be replaced if you want to make power over 500hp.

RE: 5.4 swap?
I wanted to do the 5.4 swap and jus realized i dont have that kind of money. But thatd be the way to go, dohc 5.4 single turbo.......[sm=drooldude.gif] Another thing is its more unique, not everyone has done this yet.

RE: 5.4 swap?
None of the 5.4L's are except in the GT. That's my whole point. Why spend $4,000 ona motor that's just going to need a new rotating assembly to run F/I...It's idiotic to me. Either do a forged 5.1L stroker kit w/ 4v heads and a blower, or use a 351 block...
