Broke Something

RE: Broke Something
Well I took out and replaced all of the spark plugs and I wish I had taken a picture but I will try to describe it as best as I can. In cylinder 5 the plug we pulled out, the side electrode was bent into the center. Almost as if someone had just smacked the top of it until the two metal pieces were smudged into each other. Of course there would be no spark from that plug so that would explain the misfire. We changed the plug and the car runs fine. One question, what in the hell would cause the plug to end up like that.
There were no wierd sounds inside of the engine, and the plugs haven't been touched since they were put in. I am happy the car is running good again I am just worried there is a much more severe problem waiting to pop up and I want to take care of it before it does.

RE: Broke Something
Thats EXACTLY the same way my plug looked after it should out the head. But my problem got MUCH worse...it seems you got to it JUST in time, or else you would have probably ended up like me and justin.
Only possible explanation I can think of that would cause that is maybe a piston hitting it, but that would be much worse...I dunno what causes it, but it happened to me too.

RE: Broke Something
i would get a compression test done as it sounds like as a plug only gets bent one way i know of and that tends to mean a rotating assembly issue. better safe than sorry

RE: Broke Something
Something had to have touched the plug for it to have collapsed. Happened to me on my car when I had it. Turned out I broke part of the piston off. It didn't make any noise really as far as a pop or a boom and the car ran fine. Sometimes it didn't run correctly but for the most part it was just fine.
I would suggest getting someone with a boroscope to look down in that cylinder to see if its still 100% but AT THE VERY LEAST get a compression test.

RE: Broke Something
Detonation will bend that electrode. A piston striking it and that engine wouldn't be running. And since you have a procharger check the timing in your tune. If this is still on a stock block check your compressions as you could have tore up a ring land on that cylinder.

RE: Broke Something
yea, also what kinda plugs are these? you say it has more than 1 ground strap? i wouldnt reccomend those plugs for boost on these motors if its those bosch +2, +3, or +4's.
run something like the ngk TR6's or what i run, the BR7EF's.

RE: Broke Something
Hey Justin and CobraSTANG i has the same issue with mine almost identical. Shoot thespark plug out and then gotthe head re-threaded, but now my car putterswhen i give it gas and jolts around at idle, just like Secret_stang's did. Could it be the coil for that cylinder blowing out?
