Default o2 Sensors

Why do I keep having o2 sensors read "slow response" all the time? Is it b/c of my mods and I havent been tuned yet or what? I have replaced multiple sensors in the past 2 months, and my SES light just came on, throwing a code (cant remember the exact one) but it was Bank 1 Downstream o2 Sensor Slow Response. I just dont get it.

Honestly, I dont think my battery has been unhooked since my last mod was done, which was my longtube headers. Would that make a diff. if I unhooked it for like 15 mins to re-set the computer?

I know you'll hate to hear this but slow response means your O2's are perfectly fine. It's likely that you have an exhaust leak. I would make sure your headers are snug, no gasket failures and then inspect them closely for any leaks...

Actually, im so much happier hearing that than hearing that I'm going to have to replace yet another o2 sensor.

I kinda have a feeling that my headers are leaking b/c I didnt use locking header bolts when I had them put on [sm=headbang.gif]. I guess I'll just have that checked.

Thanks Dan.

I used locking header bolts and what a PIA to hold the locker while installing the retaining clip! Sounds easier than it actually is when there's NO ROOM!!!..lol good luck with those 02 sensors

Happened to me when I went with shorty headers, it's from the movement of the O2 sensor itself. If you have a tuner box you you can put a delay on the reading to give it more time so you don't throw a code.

A little update on this.

I unhooked my battery for 15 mins for the first time since my longtubes got put on, and the code went away. I'm almost positive its going to come back (thats just my luck w/ this car), but for now its off. Also, my car seems to be running a little smoother now..I guess its b/c the computer got reset and re-learned my mods or somethin.

Hopefully it doesnt come back though, and I will be alright until I get tuned early next year.
