Default Supercharger Ideas...

Ok guys, I'm going to be putting a supercharger in my 2001 Cobra in the spring and need some ideas on what to get. Out of these three what would you pick? Kenne Bell, Paxton Novi, or Vortech and why? I know that KB is good for down low, and paxton and vortech are good for up high. I've been quoted from brenspeed for a paxton, and here is the e-mail I received from them... Tell me what you think.

------------------------
I looked up the pricing the Paxton kit and this is what we came up with: 2001 cobra
Paxton non intercooled satin tuner kit $3700
Intercooler $1400
Fuel system (we recommend 03-04 cobra tank and pumps only) $1000 plus injectors $400
Labor $840 for blower install $140 for tank and pumps
Tuner $379
Tuning $200 plus $150/hr after first hour. 2-4 hrs average.

The Vortech package will run about $750 more for the same basic set-up, but with a air to water aftercooler instead.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I would just twin turbo-it. If you gotta go with an s/c I'd go with a procharger. No need to get oil from oil pan(they are self-lubricated), and have better support. A KB would provide a boost right away, but there's a lot of heat on top of the engine from it being mounted where it is.

I think my low end is pretty good. I raced a 01 GT with a 600+HP motor that had a paxton, and I beat if off the line up to about 40 - 50MPH, then his SC kicked in and wasted me, but I also have 4.10 gears..

The way I look at it, the centrifugal supercharger, any centrifugal supercharger for that matter, will kick in later than a roots type to allow air to spin into the chamber. A turbo does the same thing except it uses exhaust gases, so there is no parasitic loss. Plus, a twin turbo kit with accompanying mods and a decent tune will net you a lot more horsepower to the wheels without the usual gear driven loss. You can get a kit from HP Performance for about the same, or a bit more, than what you would be paying for either a KB, Paxton, Magna, Whipple, Procharger, and Vortech.

But there is so much heat that a turbo puts into your engine... I just dont think you would get the same life out of your motor with a turbo.

If I understood your post correctly total cost is over $8,000. I recently purchased a ProCharger Stage II and had it installed for a lot less. The kit comes complete with intercooler, injectors, and fuel pump. Their number is 913-338-2886. If you call them they can give you the phone number of the nearest installer. You should call them and compare prices. The quotes you've been given seem high to me.

The turbo kit that I am mentioning does come with a water to air intercooler, which eliminates that hot air. You also don't have to run ridiculous boost. You'd have to run 2-4 more psi with an S/C to get the same boost you'd get from a 50mm turbo. Plus, you can upgrade to ball-bearing turbos for a bit more to eliminate a lot of that turbo lag =)
