ORIGINAL: Craziness4fun

My car pretty much stops (might go a lil faster but would take a while) at 145 and I have 373's and all the bolt ons I can think of - cams.
Then something is horribly wrong.

My car simply maxed out my old (read:screwed up) speedo and just kept going. I have a picture from a crap single use camera of my speedo pegged and the Tach sitting on close to 5K. The car was still pulling from there.

Hell, my car hit 150 MPH dead stock, with the stock program and everything. I know that some people say there is a limiter, but there isnt one on stock 5spd cars, unless it is above 150 MPH. The car went to 150 3 times before I even modded it.

BTW, why would you think that a higher gear would kill your top end? Unless you simply run out of RPM your higher gear ratio is only improving your performace in every gear, including 5th. Unless you simply run out of rev there is no reason a car with 3.27s should accellerate or go faster than one with 3.73s.

Yeah... but see... our engines havent been "touched by god" therefor we cant do anything over the speed limit. Thats what all F body guys think. [&:]

There is definately a limiter on the 02 GT not sure about all the years, but in 02 it is 150 MPH. I know cause I hit it and then I got a Predator tuner and raised it, but that was with the 3:27 rear, when I went 3:73 I could not go that fast with all of the bolt ons. I cant imagine going 155-160 with 4:10s but I have been wrong before.

Dont blame you, In Pennsyvania you probably wouldn't drive again for 10 years! Texas would through your license away as well, or cost alot for a great well connected lawyer!

well so much for the discussion of LT and FI..... dont get me wrong though i DO plan on modding my car out, i mean the PI swap, cams, full exhaust(not sure witch headers), all the bolt ons, etc. etc. but i just dont want to go FI, maybe NX but no turbos or superchargers for me. would the LTs net a big gain for N/A cars?

Long tube headers are definately the best header exhaust improvement without question over shorty and mid length but on these 4.6 cars, especially yours would probably be one of the last things to do to see 1/4 mile improvement. For your car the heads need addressed long before the headers. Gears, tires, intake mods, (Tb, Plenum),pullies all produce et reductions more than you will see with longtubes. And it is a huge job very expensive. When I did mine I was appalled at how bad that stock manifold looked when we got it out. I was also appalled when I did not go any quicker at the track after their installation despite a predator tune upgrade! Dont get me wrong long tube headers make terrific sense in every horsepower application but in the GT they dont make much of a difference and I dont understand it, somebody educate me but there are dyno documentation in MMff magazine that proves what I experienced.
