The main difference is in the heads on the motors. The 4v is a better motor than the 2v, and is found on the "special" mustangs, like the cobra's and Mach1's. which one you should go with all depends on how much money you want to spend. For example (and lets just use easy #'s to work with, these are not ment to represent actual costs) if you have 20K to spend, you could look at buying a 4v car which will be faster than a 2v... or your toher option would be tobuy a 2v car for 14k and spend the remaining 6k on upgrades that will make your 2v faster than the stock 4v. BUT if money is not an issue, I would say to just go ahead and buy a 4v car, there will still be many things that you will be able to do to the car to make it even faster, and then you won't have to worry about being beat by a 2v car. The 2v refers to the GT.

If you do want to go the 2v route, I would recomend a 2002 and up if possible, simply because of small changes and improvements here and there, like the aluminum crossover in the intake, better looking headlights, things like that, but if money is tight and you dont mind a couple more miles on the ride, the 99-01 are still excellent choices. Oh and dont forget to look at 99-01 cobras, but if you really want the king, then you will defenitely want to check out the 03-04 cobra's, Those are defenitely top dogs in my book because they came supercharged and with better engine internals.

Anyways... this is a good link to more information https://mustangforums.com/timeline/

An 03 or an 04 cobra would be your best buy. simple bolt on stuff and a pulley change with a custom tune will get you near 450-480 to the wheel. its the best investment i made since i originally had a GT and spent 13g fixing the motor. go for the 03-04 cobra or "terminator" as its called.
