Default Auto Transmission and Burnout

For those of you with an Auto

When doing a burnout from a dead stop, I can only do it one way. I have to turn off T/C and O/D, place the car in 1st and nail the gas (no brakes). I can then usually smoke the tires until it's bouncing off the rev limiter or I shift it to 2nd.

if it's in O/D and T/C off, the tires will squeal a little, but nothing more

anyone have any ideas why?

when O/D is on and T/C is OFF you just get squeal? Why cant you hold hte brake and give it gas?

O/D has nothing to do with taking off from a standstill! O/D is overdrive when your on the highway. It's an extra gear like 4th gear or some sh.t! Just get a line lock for $140 and be done with your worries. It's a pain to install since you have to deal with brake fluid, but it is so much better than just power braking. That way puts so much stress on your trans and rear endbecuz your rear brakes are trying to stop the car!

I'm not talking about power braking or using line lockers.

I'm talking about doing a burnout using motor power only, and nothing else

Yeah I understand that! And I said O/D has nothing to do with your peeling out from a standstill. I mentioned the line lock so you can burn out super easy and only hurt the rubber. Here's a tip. Put your car down into first, this runs a totally seperate eset of gears than the actual D Drive gear does. See how you peel out. Doesn't matter if O/D is on or off. Compare it to your regular D Drive with O/D on. This will show you it has nothing to do with your overdrive button. Your T/C button yes, but not your O/D.

D and 1st/2nd don't make any difference in gear when the vehicle is at a stop. The car will be in 1st anyways. The gearshift position only determines the highest gear allowed. I'll give you that the O/D may/may not have an affect.

I'm wondering if the torque converter lockup is affected when the shifter is in 1st/2nd. I can't think of anything else to account for the extra power.

hold on.... so the question is:

"Why can I burn out in First gear, and not in D?"

i wonder if in D, it takes longer to transfer the HP from teh crank because insted of having to stay in first, its going to actually change gears, causing a different pressure in the transmission maby, or perhaps a extra drag on the tranny or something

yep, that is the question. there has to be something with the computer tuning or tranmission tuning. because there is a definate difference in power. the car is alot more powerful feeling in 1st and 2nd gear vice being in D
