BUYING '03 GT Convertible - what now?
I will be purchasing an '03 GT convertible on Wednesday, with about 70K miles. Its bone stock. What now?
Oil has been regular oil since new. Is this a good time to change to synthetic?
If I was to spend about $1000 in performance upgrades, what would everyone recommend? I think the short throw shifter needs to be done first. Which one is best? Underpulleys? What else? Does anyone know a good mustang shop in the hudson valley/dutchess county New York area? I've previously owned a '95 GT convertible and a '98 Cobra Convertible.
Thanks,
Mike

gears, exhaust, shortshifter are all good starting mods.
your car should be fine switching to synthetic. they say if you switch from synthetic back it could cause a problem.

i bought a steeda tri-ax and love it. some guys will say that mgw is the best. they all shorten your throw so its ups to you. with exhaust, it depends on what you like you want something deep old muscle car stylish, get an h-pipe and a mac catback of flows. if you want pissed of mustang go with an x-pipe and maybe a bassani catback. as for the gears go 4.10 you will be glad you did.

yea for gears i would go with either 3:90s or 4:10s and exhaust it is up to what you like there was a thread started with a bunch of diff exhaust here is the link https://mustangforums.com/m_2189116/tm.htm and if i had a manual i would get the MGW my cousin has it and it is supose to be the shortest shift on the market

thanks for the help. Anyone know a shop in NY?
Also, mileage almost all highway and easy miles. Buying from my boss, so some of the miles are mine. Paying him $12K. Think it is a reasonable deal. Car is charcoal gray and in nice shape.

The first thing I would do is find a cat-back of your choice to make everybody think it is faster then it is [8D]...
Then I would get a short throw shifter (Ilove my MGW), it just makes it funner to drive, gives it a stiff notchy shift that makes you think your driving a fast car...
Then your choice of lowering springs (I have the Eibach Pro-kit)... They make springs to lower 1", 1.5" and 2"... I personally went with the 1.5"... looks good and I dont bottom my exhaust out everywhere.
Catback = $400-$500
Short throw = $200
Springs = $200
Then you could even do stuff like tint, mach 1 grill delete, and mach 1 chin spoiler.
I hope this helps out... BTW im just throwing these out there with experience of purchasing everything already... (the short throw is a have too) most people instead of getting a catback just have an exhaust shop install welded in Flows for like $300...
The problem with doing this is you still have 2 1/4" piping compared to aftermarket 2 1/2" piping = less power and if you want to hook up a 2 1/2" mid pipe you now are going from 2 1/2" mid pipe to 2 1/4" piping... = stupid.
If you have bullits then you could buy deep dish bullits with fat rear tires... thats probably one of the best things Ive done to my car.
Just puttin stuff out there.
