gear whine normal and will go away after about 500 miles.

what a load of B.S. the gears are hardened steel. if they whine from the get go, they will whine until a new pattern is worn....or better yet, they break your rear-end. either way, your axle is an accident waiting to happen. If you leave it whining, you may have to replace your axle shafts as well.

make the shop fix it, and do it properly...for free of charge

Maybe he was saying you should wait for them to break in your rear-end.

They shouldn't whine. He needs to adjust them.
+1, the shims are wrong, no exceptions.

You should hear nothing.

Is it true that some manufacturers just make noisy gears? Or it shouldnt matter?

So the conclusion is...

New Gears + Whining at decel = Bad install, need to be checked.

Thanks everyone.

well everyone always bags on motives and frpp "m" gears (made by motive for ford), but brenspeed installs motives without issue, so I'd say it comes down to the installer. Keep in mind Brent is godlike.

from what ive read the motives are harder to install than the frpp gears.

my buddy has richmond gears that whine in his ls1 z28, i asked him if the install was wrong or something. he said richmond gears always whine. same installer did frpp 3.73's on yelw02gt and they do not whine.

Gear wine is not normal, there should be no gear wine, if there is its because if inproper shim, bad install.

I installed my own and had no problems at all. Since you already paid to have them installed, take them back and tell him to fix it. Tell him to make sure the backlash is correct (between .008 and .012) and that the pinion depth is good.
+1 your pinion depth is off and not fully on the gear that is what is causing your whine.
