Default Verdict In: GUILTY! Bent Valve

Alright, got the tires on today, and got to use them to drive home 3 miles at 25mph in 3rd gear.

The guys who did the examining said that they believe a valve is bent, not sure if it is intake or exhaust. Causes are unknown.

Helicoil is still in place, but the head will have to come off anyways, so it'll either be replaced, or machine shopped. No money for nice heads.

Intriguing part is that they say they saw something that appears to be 'brass' wedged somewhere in the piston. Since I am not really familiar with the shape/look of a piston and how it moves, I am not entirely sure what they're talking about.

Again, head comes off anyways, so we'll get to see.

Comments? Suggestions? Experiance? Head Removal? Hard?

*sigh*

lol, "Something" or anytihng for that matter wedged in the piston could be bad, thats pretty much a floating chunk of brass in ur chamber there.

I know its bad, but where could it be 'wedged' that it wouldnt just absolutely destroy the cylinder wall? Cause they mentioned nothing about that.

Nobody else has anything to say? Nice

The only thing that comes to mind is that it would be wedged between the piston and the cylinder wall....., and it would probably cause noticable damaged to the wall which they probably would of mentioned.

Yea, and seeing as they didnt mention that, I cant imagine that would be it.

What would be brass like or appearing that would be on or around the piston?

How did they know it was brass in the first place?

"looks like brass"

they must just be judging it by the color.. which could be something metallic, burnt to a brass color i would suppose..

they saw it using the boroscope i think,,,

Brass is not magnetic, so if they used a telescopic magnet to retreive whatever it is in your cylinder and it wouldn't pick it up they may be assuming it's brass. Also, if it is brass, the only thing I can think of is when your valve bent that you destroyed a valve guide and some how part of it made its way in the cylinder. Just a guess though.

if anything is wedges anywhere in the cylinder, the motors f*cked. Might as well start checking out prices on a complete motor replacement.

you would have to get it bored out alittle and get bigger pistons but other than that it would be reusable. i say pull the heads to know the fact of what is wrong with it... if you start in the morning one day, you should have the whole thing apart by mid day and maybe to a machine shop and back on the car by the next morning with it running.

its not really hard to pull the head on these cars, it simple. there is alot of room as well. unless you have long tubes. lol.
