Default Running Rich?

I am thinking my car is running rich. But I can't be sure. What is the best way to troubleshoot? My first assumption is that on my next fill up, note the amount of gas I put in and reset the trip-o-meter. But is there anything I can do that won't cost me money that can help produce a solution to the problem? If I can find that it's just my head, that'd be great too.

Well, the first indication of my being rich was the huge usage of gasoline. I swear I can watch the needle fall. Would less air cause that?

you'd get a check engine light if you were running very rich.

So I'm probably just imagining things? Just seems like I'm going through gas really quick. I honestly expect about 15 to the gallon, if not 20ish when I'm not romping on it. But I'm very nice to this car during the commute to work... on the way home I'm a bit elated so it gets a bit of gas, but nothing to make me go down a quarter of a tank in two days on a, I swear to god, 1 mile commute, I could walk to work if I didn't sleep in so late.

the fuel guages on our cars kinda suck bad and are not the most consistent level indicators that can be had. try this, fill it up and go for a 50+ mile highway cruise, then fill it up again. figure your mileage, it looks like you have a v6 so i'd expect at least 25mpg traveling at a constant 65-70 mph. if that what you get then you're good, if not come back and post your results

YES... a dirty air filter will lower gas mileage!! So will alot of things... bad tire pressure, bad fuel filter, bad oil.... etc. etc.

I'll look at the filter after work, also I'll check the tire pressure. been needing to do that anyway. I don't think they've been looked at for like a month or so. Thanks guys.
