There is an old guy down the street from me who has a 5.0 and it is putting down 570 rwhp n/a. Technically its not a 5.0 anymore its a 5.8 stroker. Its runs mid-high 10's in the 1320.

They make ALOT of power really cheap.

If you guys look into it and add up the cost of H/C/I it's really not that impressive. One of my best friends has a 94' cobra 331 stroker, AFR heads, comp cam, edelbrock heads and built internals and he only hit 307whp. With the money he put into that car you could easily have a PI motor with a base centrifucal kit and be making 350 easy. Just my opinion though.

There is no replacement for displacement .I hate that saying because there is one good solution Forced induction!

Man, I really do hate to sound like an ignorant dumbass here but I've always wondered, why exactly are 281's referred to as "modular" motors exactly? Sorry to ask such a retarded question lol.. I've never really understood how they got that name though.[/align]

Its a mod motor because its part of the mod motor family, the 4.6L and 5.4L (both 2v, 3v, and 4v) all share common parts and design. Thus its "modular" in that you can swap parts from one to another (not all parts, but you get the idea).

This is what I am saying. It might be cheaper to build a n/a 5.0 than a n/a 4.6L, but so clear cut when you want to make xxx horsepower for xxx dollars. The 5.0 isn't really that cheap to build... like almost any performance car you get what you pay for.

The weight is the big thing, if our cars didn't weigh almost 3400 poudns right out of the factory it would be a differnt matter. Imagine a 400 WHP blown 2v that only weighs 3000 pounds. Hell, alot of people wonder how code3 turns such great times n/a (even with a hella launch). the secret is weight reduction.

Not really that hard....392 RWHP out of my 308 N/A...Yes...really nice preped heads, nice lopy hydraulic roller,carb...with 9.5 to 1 compression..car is set up for nitrous...with 3.73'sand slicks can run 11.50's 60 's all day long...andthen theres that 150 shot...Carb does suck for drivabilty...[:'(]
You made 392 WHP out of a 308 with only 9.5:1, heads/cam/intake setup???

Somebody needs to get their dyno tuned....
Call Modular Depot and let them know their dynos off...LOL...You need to realize C.I really not that important....hell 4.6 you should know this...its all about HEAD flow...and my canfields flow 288 @ 600 on the intake side..over 200 on the exhaust ....with a 600 lift roller..450 H.P(crank) is nothard out of any pushrod old tech motor(ford, chevy or dodge)...also my shift point is 7000...and the motor(being that small C.I makes it all up top.and is intended for drag racing and an occasional drive to town....

It's really just a matter of the 5.0 being out longer. It's parts have had a lot more time for refinement, and they are cheaper too. Look at the 4.6 mod, they are JUST NOW starting to get a few aftermarket intakes. It will take a while for improvements to be built.
