Default What 4.6 engines will fit?

I just bought a 96 GT as a project. What all 4.6L ford engines will work in this mustang? I ask because I know they make 4.6L truck engines and they are more abundant than mustang engines.

I can pick up a 2007 F150 4.6L w/ less than 10k for around 1500. Will this bolt straight up to my transmission and wiring harnesses? I have both wiring harnesses for the mustang 4.6 and the truck engine.

Any thoughts and advice would be great.

Thanks

That wont work. the 2007 engine is a 3v. different mounts, heads, cams, intake, wiring harness, ecu. Any 4.6L from 94-04 will work. If you buy a truck engine you wont want to use the cams or intake. Try to find 99-04 mustang gt engine, you can find them all day long for under $1000.

Really.. I haven't seen any on ebay in a while, where else to look?

Also, what about the 4.6 DOHC out of the Lincoln's? Isn't that good for 260-280hp? Can you toss in some Cobra cams and get the power up? Will it bolt onto a manual transmission out of a +96 gt?

If your looking for just a drop in and go engine then no the mark VIII is not just a drop in. You need the wiring harness and computer.

A bit over $1000 and you still need the computer but its on ebay for $49 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...QQcmdZViewItem

With 5 days left, I have little doubt that engine will go for over 2k easy, if not 3k.

Ok guys, so I found a 1997 Lincoln Continental 4.6 DOHC engine. If I just buy a Cobra flywheel will it bolt up directly to my stock transmission? Will all the wiring work with my stock computer and wiring?

Yes it will, but u wont have any power gain whatsover, the gt computer is completely different in the settings, one of the biggest issues will be the fact it cant open the IMRCs in the DOHV motor, when i did my swap and dynoed it on the stock gt computer i put down 193 rwhp, same i did with my 2v.

So if I ran across a 2001-2004 GT engine that was originally an automatic would the engine mount to my t45? Would all the wiring from the newer engine work with my 96 GT?

What ALL will need to be changed out?
